Back to Perth from Sydney

Touched down at Perth Domestic Airport today at 12.40p.m. Flight duration from Sydney was around 4hrs 20 mins Its quite slow compared to my Perth to Sydney flight as according to the captain, the journey is faced with strong head wind, forcing the flight speed to be reduced to an average of 670km/h. It was around 980km/h on my last flight.

Well, Sydney trip was really an 'unforgettable' one. Unforgettable as in more than 50% of my planned activity was canceled due to bad weather condition. Can you imagine that? Hot air balloon flight, which is the highlight of the trip was also canceled. We purposely waited at Sydney up to 3.30a.m. the day of the planned flight and only get to know that the weather condition hampers the flight of the hot air balloon. In addition, I've already paid and just because I have no time in exchange for another flight nor another activity, I've forfeited AUD64!.. The day before the flight was even worse. It was raining whole day and the rain clouds was as if chasing us, tailing us where ever we drive!. What the heck, spoiling all our plans, from Tree Top Walk, WaterPark and we have to visit a zoo under the rain... Well, 人算不如天算. Everything was so well planned. We even rented a Camry Altise for 2 days just for the trip but, who knows, an unpredictable weather spoils everything!..我和Sydney 没有缘!! Haiz... But overall, I've got lots of interesting experience especially with my bro Chee Shing and his bunch of so nice friendS!.. Will mention the trip in details with photos, which is the most important part in my next posting...

We are to continue our trip around Perth from tomorrow onwards. It will be around Perth tomorrow, ranging from Burswood, Swan Valley, Rockingham, Fremantle, Hillary's Beach and then pizza at Little Caesars Mundaring before heading down to Albany tomorrow. It will be a fun road trip tomorrow I guess!.. Praying hard for a nice blue sky type of weather... Till then, next post will be full of pictures I guess...!

Gotta sleep and recharge fully for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow's full blast trip!..

Off to Sydney....

In less than 12 hours time, I will be boarding DJ438 heading to Sydney. Departure time will be 0045 hours from Perth DOmestic Airport and Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) will be around 7.00am Sydney local time..

Will be travelling around Sydney for a few days and return to Perth on the 26th November and continue to travel around Perth with Chee Shing and his friend...

Travel planned is being drafted by Chee Shing for Sydney and Perth is being done by me. Well, expect lots of pictures posting of the trip after the 2nd December when the trip is over and I'm back to Kuching...

As a feeling of guilt for spending money for the trip, I've decided to work the next day after my last paper up to the very last day before I leave Perth to Sydney. So, will be working still from 5-8pm later on before I leave for Sydney. Though, I know that the money earned is not much but at least can cover some expenses and also I've pratically covered my return air ticket with my work salary.

Still stuck in the university library now. Came this morning to do my enrolment, hoping that they would allow me to do overloading for the coming next 2 semesters but, to no avail, they say its the university's policy that overloading is only allowed for final semester provided results is good. What a crap!! In addition, 2 out of my 4 units for the next semester does not have tutorial..! Can you imagine how free I am gonna be? Unfortunately though, timetable makes me gotta go uni for 5 days a week!Cant help with that as there is no other choice of making it into 3 or 4 days...

And another issue that makes me really pissed is, another unit in my study plan is being DISCONTINUED!.. Supply Chain Information Management...this unit is no longer continued..! What the heck is this? I'm not the only one though... Stupid uni..Cancelling another logistics unit of mine...I really wonder how many undergrad is doing logistics...I guess its the rarity that causes the cancellation of so many units...

Well, I've managed to finish 'The Rape of Nanking' within this 4 days of holidays of mine... Its really an eye opener to the brutality of the Japanese and their refusal to admit the crime against humanity that they have committed 61 years ago until today as compared to their German Nazi counterpart where most of them have been executed, become fugitives of International Law. These Class A war criminals are still being enshrined and worshipped in the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, Japan. In conclusion, the rape of nanking=holocaust of Asia in China. How come concentration camps and holocause of the Jews are made to be a public awareness and not the 'extermination' of the Chinese in Nanking?

I guess all Chinese should know how our ancestors and relatives suffered the war and treatment of the Japanese during the war. Its not to create a sentiment but only from awareness we become wary of what happened just a mere 60+ years ago. I've got the documentary 'Nanking 2007' telling true stories of those who have survived the war in Nanking. Do let me know if you are interested and I'll be more than grateful to share with u!..

Finally...The End of Semester 1...

Having finished my last paper of the semester today, its officially the end of my first semester here in Curtin Perth. Felt great that everything went smoothly for the semester...

Well, as for the next few days, it would be boring for me. Although working, its only 3-4 hours work a day. How boring it is... So, to make it well spent, here's what I planned to complete:

Its reading just to widen the knowledge of my interest:

1. The Rape of Nanking - Iris Chang

2. China at War - MacKinnon, Lary and Vogel

Although I've read The Rape of Nanking before, I as merely a Form 2 kid when I read that. Many things seems alien to me... So, would just like to read it again...Weird reading topic?

4 days for me to finish this 2 books before I leave to Sydney..Just hope to finish as much as I could...It sounds kinda impossible to finish that amount within this short period of time....

Off Grid for the coming days, perhaps weeks.

I was trying to finish off the internet quota that I have left by downloading movies and also Photomatix yesterday after my first paper of finals.
Who knows the Key-Gen of the software is a trojan file instead of a key gen. Damm... Finally I need to reformat my laptop. Infected with Trojan, although its detected by my anti spyware, I just cant remove it. Always wanting to reformat due to laggardness, finally the time has come. And I've decided to leave it off until I finish off my last paper next week before I start the reformatting. Its a blessing in disguise I guess cause my distraction is now 'offline'. I wont be able to enjoy drama that conveniently...Until I reformat..

So, I will be 'on the grid' with limits, through Delia's PC and also my Iphone. That's it. Wont wanna renew my laptop though it feels nice to reformat..!Till then, I'll remain silent..Perhaps I would only reformat when I get back to Kuching.. Depends then..

2 more papers to go..Quantitative Modelling tomorrow and Marketing Research next Monday...And I'm officially off for semester 1!

Environmental Conservation

Finished my first paper today...Was quite happy with it, but its just my last minute panic that makes me jumble up some terms...Writing down the wrong one in the answers.. That's the only thing that makes me felt that the exams is not well done.. Whatever it is, its over. Nothing can be done. In simple words, today's paper was quite okay, but not very well done. That's it.

Well, after the exams, I came back, prepared dinner and after eating it was still early. Took a drive down to Canning River. Took some shots and I like the way they are building roads. The dont cut down trees that are blocking the way, but build a narrower lane between it. Photo provides the best explanation

1. Environmental Conscious right?
Photobucket

2. This picture is my first HDR photograph. FYI, HDR simply means High Dynamic Range. An 32bit picture file is almost 55mb in TIFF. format.

3. HDR photograph of the Canning River...

Comments?

Well, just to de-stress.. THough I'm not really stressed for this time's finals. Will continuing the war preparation tomorrow for Wednesday's paper. Hope to do my best with no regrets again for Wednesday's paper!..

To those sitting for their SPM and STPM...All the best!..

Paying attention means:

Commitment means:

'Someone explaning, with full of verbal and non-verbal gestures to another person whole-heartedly, up to the extent of ignoring surrounding'

Paying attention simply means: listening attentively and giving feedback, showing attentiveness..

The picture below: Commitment and attentiveness exists, but I'm the distraction...Hahaz..sorry about that.. What is Arden trying to explain anyway?

Super China Power!

BEIJING: China announced a $586 billion stimulus package in its biggest move to stop the global financial crisis from hitting the world's fourth-largest economy.

A statement on the government's Web site said Sunday that China's Cabinet had approved a plan to invest 4 trillion yuan ($586 billion) in infrastructure and social welfare by the end of 2010.

Some of the money will come from the private sector.

The statement did not say how much of the spending is on new projects and how much is for ventures already in the pipeline that will be speeded up.

China's export-driven economy is starting to feel the impact of the economic slowdown in the United States and Europe, and the government has already cut key interest rates three times in less than two months in a bid to spur economic expansion.

Economic growth slowed to 9 percent in the third quarter, the lowest level in five years and a sharp decline from last year's 11.9 percent.

That is considered dangerously slow for a government that needs to create jobs for millions of new workers who enter the economy every year and to satisfy a public that has come to expect steadily rising incomes.

Exports have been growing at an annual rate of more than 20 percent but analysts expect that may fall as low as zero in coming months as global demand weakens.

The statement said the Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao, had "decided to adopt active fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policies.''

It did not give details.

The statement said the spending would focus on 10 areas.

They included picking up the pace of spending on low-cost housing - an urgent need in many parts of the country - as well as increased spending on rural infrastructure.

Money will also be poured into new railways, roads and airports.

Spending on health and education will be increased, as well as on environmental protection and high technology.

Spending on rebuilding disaster areas, such as Sichuan province where 70,000 people were killed and millions left homeless by a massive earthquake in May, will also be sped up.

That includes 20 billion yuan ($2.93 billion) planned for next year that will be moved up to the fourth quarter of this year.

The statement, without giving details, said rural and urban incomes would be increased.

Credit limits for commercial banks will also be removed to channel more lending to priority projects and rural development, it said.

As well, reform of the value-added tax system will cut taxes by 120 billion yuan ($17.5 billion) for enterprises, the statement said.

The plan was announced before President Hu Jintao goes to Washington to push Western leaders to give poorer countries a bigger role in global financial institutions at a Nov. 15 summit of the Group of 20 major economies on the financial crisis.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown welcomed the move and said he looked forward to further discussion of coordinating fiscal and monetary policy at the Washington meeting.

"It is vital that all countries play their part in stimulating growth in the world economy at this time,'' a Downing Street spokesman said.

An amount almost matching the $700billion bailout plan put in place by the US government. What the heck is happening? Government pumping monies into their economies worldwide to limit the effect of financial crisis? Will this work? I really wonder...But wadever, China is RICH!..SUPER RICH!.. $586billion is almost equivalent to RM1.6 trillion!.. Holy crap!

What a 'dry' day....

Running on empty pipes?

Saturday, 8 November 2008. 2 days before my first paper on Monday, 10 November 2008. Woke up today, wanted to bath but the tap is running dry!...

End up, without bathing I've no mood to study. The tap had been dry since I got up this morning...and its 5 p.m. now. What a day for me... End up, watching drama... Not studying.

Don't know should I feel bad or not. I felt that I'm quite ahead of schedule for my revision. Keeps me wondering should I feel bad over things despite the fact that I've did my revision. Surprisingly, this semester, finals doesnt bring me any pressure at all. Everything seems to be under control.

Just cant bear with the tap running dry...! Have u ever tried cant bath for almost a day??!! Its drama festival for me again today!...Hopefully not tonight..! wanna bath then get to uni and continue study..! same for tomorrow as well....

After exams comes holidays!...Sydney and Kuching here I come...!

Being Uncertain?

Taking the road not taken,
Spending extra time others dont,
Switching to something I finally feel certain about its future,
Am I really that certain?
Does Perfect Information exists?
Nothing is certain in this universe.
I might be failing like nobody has before,
And will I have the might to get up and fight again?
Or will things goes smoothly and succeed in life?
I'm not certain and I guess no one is.
The future is like sand in the beaches.
Belonging to beaches in everywhere around the world.
Everyone has their own pullback, weaknesses that is holding them back from succedding,
Being cruel to oneself means throwing those weakness away,
so that we may be successful.
We gain and lose.
Gain success and lose the comfort zone which is deemed to be our weakness.
Which one to choose?
I'm unsure, uncertain.
But what I'm certain is, I'll fight like a soldier whom will only charge ahead.
No looking back or face gunned down..

Just felt like writing, dont know what I am doing while I am supposed to be studying...Just thought of how uncertain life is..Well, treasure everyday is what we can do...

New president faces increased risk of conflict, intel chief says

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The global economy is tanking, U.S. forces remain tied up in Iraq, Afghanistan is on a downward spiral -- one might wonder why anyone would want to be U.S. president during these trying times.

Economic and population growth will strain resources, says National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell.

Recently, the nation's chief intelligence officer weighed in, painting an even more somber picture of a far more complicated world.

National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell looked beyond the immediate future, focusing on what his analysts are telling him about the challenges the world community is likely to face by 2025. It isn't pretty.

Speaking to an annual conference of intelligence officials and contractors, McConnell said demographics, competition for natural resources and climate change will increase the potential for conflict.

President-elect Barack Obama may get a glimpse of some of those challenges on Thursday. McConnell is expected to lead Obama's first top-secret intelligence briefing, according to U.S. officials familiar with the process.

A team of intelligence briefers has been named and is ready to discuss with Obama the Presidential Daily Brief, similar to the one provided to President Bush, says a message from CIA Director Michael Hayden to CIA employees obtained by CNN.

According to McConnell's outlook, economic and population growth will strain resources. "Demand is projected to outstrip the easily available supplies over the next decade," he said at the annual conference.

The intelligence community's forecast indicates oil and gas supplies will continue to dwindle and production will be concentrated in unstable areas, he said. And there appears to be no relief at hand.

McConnell said studies have shown that new energy technologies -- such as biofuels, clean coal and hydrogen -- generally take 25 years to become commercially viable and widespread.

The lack of access to safe, reliable water will reach unprecedented levels over the next 20 years, he said, and 1.4 billion people in 36 countries are likely to face water shortages that will have a substantial impact on food production.

"Climate change is expected to exacerbate those resource scarcities," he said.

McConnell spoke of the unprecedented transfer of global wealth from West to East. By 2025, China is projected to be the second-largest economy and on its way to becoming the largest. India will grow to be the second- or third-largest economy.

All of this adds up to an unstable future. "Given the confluence of factors from a new global international system, increasing tension over natural resources, weapons proliferation ... we predict an increased likelihood for conflict," McConnell concluded.

Among the problems that aren't going away is terrorism -- an issue that did not get as much play as it initially appeared it would during the presidential campaign. McConnell said the descendants of long-established terrorist groups "will inherit organizational structures, the command and control processes and the training procedures necessary to conduct sophisticated attacks."

He said he is particularly concerned that a terrorist group will acquire and use biological agents to create casualties greater than the September 11, 2001, attacks.

In addition, he warned that a nuclear-armed Iran would "sow the seeds of instability and potential conflict" in that region on a scale that could affect the entire world.

Although the risk of a nuclear attack is "very low" over the next 20 to 30 years, McConnell said, "That possibility is grayer in the future than it is today."

So what does this mean for the new president?

"After the new president-elect's excitement subsides after winning the election, it is going to be dampened somewhat when he begins to focus on the realities of the myriad of changes and challenges we are going to face in the future," McConnell said.

Crumpler 6 million dollar home

I've just spent the last of my 3 weeks hard work salary, ordering a Crumpler 6 million dollar Home for my beloved camera.. The bagpack that I am using is too shallow for my camera when it's fixed with the huge 18-200mm, making it protruding out when placed facing down. I guess that's causing the lens VR to get faulty previously. Imagine the whole load of the bag sitting down on the lens.. Heavy eh... Well, the Kata DR-467 is a good bagpack, just tat I'll need to bring my lens adaptor cover back here and put it in the bag without the cover to avoid it getting 'hurt' again...It hurt, I also hurt le..

The good thing about this Crumpler bag is....Its a camera bag that doesnt shouts "I'm a bloody hell camera bag!' as compared to other sling camera bag. Well, guess the dream of the Tamron 18-50mm f2.8 gotta wait till next year when I start working at Mackers again...Thanks Mackers for paying up for the Crumpler bag and my return air tickets to Sydney!... Feel kinda guilty for spending all the money...supposed to be reducing in spending by working..who knows...haiz..God help me stop this spending spree...!

Time to give away 'Free Coffee'!

Monday November 3, 2008
No sure decision yet on whether extra passenger needs to belt up or pay up

KUALA LUMPUR: The countdown to the rear seat-belt law has begun but there is one nagging question – what happens if there’s an additional passenger?

A normal saloon car can seat five passengers, three of them in the rear.

The uncertainty among those with more than five family members is, can the additional passenger travel without buckling up, once the rear seat-belt law is enforced on Jan 1?

The Road Safety Department says they can, but the traffic police says the issue has not been decided.

Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh said a car with a capacity of three seats in the rear would only have three seat belts.

However, the driver would be advised not to carry a fourth passenger without a seat belt.

But in the event there is a fourth rear passenger, he clarified that the extra passenger would not be summoned.

According to a survey conducted by his department, 91% of the cars sat fewer than three passengers behind. Only 9% of the cars had more than three passengers in the rear.

“If a van, MPV or saloon car has a seating capacity of seven, then seven seat belts should be provided.”

Federal Traffic Chief Senior Asst Comm Abdul Aziz, when contacted, said police had yet to decide on the issue of a fourth passenger in the back seat not belting up.

“It’s too early for me to comment on that, we will decide on the matter when the time comes,” he said.

He said for now, the concern was to educate the passengers to start using the rear seat belts.

“It is a good practice for the drivers, and also for the safety of their passengers,” he said.

Suret Singh said car manufacturers like Proton, Perodua and Honda have agreed to retrofit the rear seat belts free-of-charge for cars assembled after Jan 1, 1995.

They have all signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the department, he said, adding that he was optimistic Naza would also retrofit the rear belts for free for their cars.

“We appreciate the contribution of all these companies to retrofit the belts without any extra cost as part of their corporate social responsibility programme for road safety,” he told The Star yesterday.

These companies are expected to announce soon the locations where the seat belts can be retrofitted, he added.

You expect all your national cars without rear seatbelt (those manufactured earlier) to install it within 60 days? Only now 'expecting to announce locations where seat belt can be retrofitted' Can u imagine if all Malaysians whose car without rear seatbelt go and fit it withing this 60 days? What's 1,000,000 cars divided by 100 centers? how fast can they fix? Somemore, what happens to those car who doesnt have manufacturer service centers like those old Honda, Mazda and other Ocipala brand? Where to fix? the Menteri's house?

And the Parliment is half asleep. Its good to ensure rear passenger buckle up. It saves lives. But, they dont even have a decision for the extra passenger!!@@! What is the purpose of you wanting people to buckle up?? Save life!. An extra passenger who didnt buckle up will be equivalent to all rear passenger didnt buckle up.. The extra one is going to be the projectile during an accident as usual, killing himself and the passenger in front.. What is this? Make it compulsary lar..!No overloading. If your purpose is really to save lives.. If not, don implement it at all.. It will become our 'mata's' good chance to have more coffee to drink... How many times u see a car overloaded? I guess it equivalent to the times u see a bike in malaysia...

Even such a small thing also cant make a proper decision..! Rear passenger? 'advised not to'!' what's this? vague answer...! Is this what they (those MPs) are paid to do? Giving vague answer so their mata have more coffee to drink? Hangat Hangat Chicken Shit...! got starting no ending. No follow up.. No wanna implement dy, I am sure these people will be shouting to Proton Edar, Where is ur free seatbelt u promised???!! Quick! 60 days more left..!@

Malaysia Boleh! Semua boleh!

*my advise, if u don wanna die, or let mata have chance to say anything and wanna overload, bring a rough rope with u and tie urself up like the others...In case of accident, u wont become a projectile! and police catch, tell them, menteri say, 'advisable dont' only leh.. But i no money to buy MPV wor... and seatbelt pasang needa wait for months for my appointment.. So, use rope first lor...same wad.. HAHAZ>>! what a joke..

Anyway, its study week for me starting from 12pm today!...STUDY MODE: ON

The End of my 1st Semester in Curtin Perth

Yesterday, 31/10/2008 was my last day of my first semester in Curtin. Whoa...Really a relief..Its like the starting of holidays for me..

Went uni hand in my last piece of 'headache' assignment and guess what, printing and binding shops were packed with students all rushing to print their assignment.. Bloody hell, useless people no matter how u wanna help them also no use. Even last day of handing in assignment also didnt turn up.. F**K.. work also didnt do.. I was still hesitating whether to fill in peer evaluation form or not.. Haiz.. Well, who the hell cares..Just don wanna create any more trouble so I didnt fill. Even my IM tutor asked me, 'did u fill in the peer evaluation form?' and when I said no, she was kinda shocked.. I also cant believe myself doing almost 80% of the 100 pages report. That was the bad part of the day, disappointing for me. But things turn great later that evening.

Guess what, I went Mundaring with Vinson and his friends to indulge the famous pizza, Ice Cream Pizza..Really nice..and its so sweet..Vinson is my group mate for International Marketing. And, working with my group mates from International Marketing was the best group work experience I had ever have. We didnt meet up much but each of us played our part responsibly and we got a Distinction for our group assignment. Cool rite?

And, the most interesting part, this friend of mine, Vinson and his gang, are all racers...! Damm...I was still cursing people in Australia with good roads and cars but drive at 60km/h.. Guess what, these gang of people, Irwin, Vinson and Cool Lee.. (hope I get his name rite) are all racers, professionals ones.. The go track for racing, and their cars are really tuned for racing!
Their armada: Honda INtergra DC2, Honda CRX, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.. OMG!

The most exciting part, the road to Mundaring was going uphill... a bit like the road in Initial D. FU*K..Racing up and down the hills! 130km/h downhill..Imagine that? Syok lar..! And according to Vinson, thats the slow speed..normally they will whack 200+km/h downhill.. Why? cause last nite when we are eating at Mundaring, cops cars are all around..! 4 of them pass by us while we are eating..so..better don play play..

As you might know, speed cameras and radar detectors in patrol cars are all around in Aussie road..And, the best part, Irwin's Lancer is installed with radar and laser detector..! Speed cam? go to hell lar..! ( its legal to have these detector in Western but not Eastern states ) and so, Irwin will normally lead.. From my house to Mundaring, all the way whack 120km/h..reach there in only 30mins..compared to normal 45mins..

Sitting in a B18C engine with its roaring VTEC when revved above 5500rpm is really syok! Just like the sound especially when the VTEC opens at 5500rpm.. Power man!... Spirit of the road!...Its like so long I havent been in a car driven above 100km/h since I came Perth..Last nite was an experience for me..Really an thrilling one.. hahaz..looking forward for their next race..! to be in a 200+km/h car..!
