Sub-zero temps give Perth a record chilly start
22nd September 2008, 9:45 WST
Perth recorded its coldest ever September temperature this morning.
Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Richard Rattley said the minimum temperature in Perth was 1C, but at Jandakot it fell to a chilly minus 1.3C.
"We had very cold conditions yesterday with the front that hit Perth," Mr rattley said. "The air from that front came from the south with the air temperature coming from the deep Southern Ocean, which typically at this time of year is at its coldest.
"Although the days are starting to get longer, the oceans take a long time to catch up and remain quite cold."
Yesterday’s storm front saw wild winds and heavy rains damage more than 30 homes across in Perth’s coastal suburbs.
Mr Rattley said should reach 18C in Perth today but would drop again to 5C overnight.
